Having a child born with any condition, disease or sickness is heart breaking. When this is a rare disease heart break becomes panic. When you find out there is no cure you panic escalates to hopelessness. When you loss your child the entire world around you shatters. You are left in world
around you shatters. You are left in a world without the person you were supposed to watch grow up. The day we lost Kaleo to a rare lung disease we were left with the heart wrenching feeling that this couldn’t be the end of his story. Why would such a rare disease exist? Why did he live so much longer than anyone had expected? What was he trying to tell us while he was here?
As we settled into our life without our only child we were faced with another set of uncertainties. How do we deal with what life looked like to us? The problem with figuring this out started with the fact that we felt all alone. We didn’t feel there was a grief community to support us. There were many people who were supportive, but they couldn’t understand the entirety of what we were feeling. To be honest we never wanted anyone to understand those feelings so we kept them to ourselves. Slowly we adapted to living a fake life of being okay most of the time while actually silently falling apart.
